Improving Access to Hospital Services for Centre Wellington Families

New Ontario Government Supports State-Of-The-Art Facility

April 19, 2013

Ontario is supporting the community of Centre Wellington with planning for its new hospital.

The province is investing an additional $5,500,000 for planning and design of Groves Memorial Community Hospital.

Groves Memorial Community Hospital is planning to replace its existing acute care facility with a state-of-the-art hospital that will bring excellent health care to Centre Wellington residents. The new facility will support a range of inpatient acute care and complex continuing care programs and ambulatory care services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory and an emergency department. The new facility will also include upgraded medical education campus space to accommodate student learners.

Modernizing our health care facilities provides more access to the right care, at the right time in the right place, and is part of Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care.

"Our government is committed to providing top-quality health care closer to home and delivering positive results for our community. This planning and design grant is the next step towards a new, state-of-the-art facility for Groves Memorial Community Hospital and Centre Wellington’s 26,000 residents."

  • Liz Sandals, MPP Guelph

"Our investment in the planning and design of this important project will help to meet the health care needs of Centre Wellington and the surrounding communities’ health care needs for years to come. It’s more progress towards providing more access to the right care, at the right time and in the right place – which is a key part of Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care."

  • Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care

"Today’s announcement is just part of the exciting bigger picture that is taking place to transform healthcare services for the residents of Wellington County. We are building foundations both literally and figuratively that will improve care and provide better health and better futures in this community."

- Joan Fisk, Board Chair, Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network

"This grant allows us to continue our planning as we work towards designing an innovative healthcare campus in Centre Wellington. We are very grateful to the Ministry of Health for this grant support."

- Paul Smith, Board Chair, Groves Memorial Community Hospital

  • This funding brings Ontario’s total planning and design investment in Groves Memorial Community Hospital’s Replacement Hospital project to $6,000,000.
  • Tendering for the project is expected to commence in the 2014/15 provincial fiscal year.
  • Under Building Together, Ontario is providing grants to 11 hospitals to assist with the planning and design costs associated with their capital projects.
